If you live in Lancashire you know the name Ferrari. No, not that one; I’m talking about Susan and Ginio, who first launched Ferrari’s restaurant in Gt Eccleston, then added Ferrari’s Country House to the mix in 1995.

Ferrari’s isn’t the sort of place you pass accidentally. It’s tucked away in the village of Thornley in the Ribble Valley, but it’s well worth adding to your list of potential Preston wedding venues for a whole bunch of reasons.

Firstly, it’s genuinely family run (and feels it), with Susan and Ginio’s children helping to keep standards high.

It’s not a stuffy venue. You don’t have to feel as though you’re on your best behaviour. That makes it easier for you to relax and enjoy your wedding – which sounds an odd thing to say but a wedding can be a stressful thing, and it’s so much better if you can relax into it and enjoy the experience.

Ferrari’s is a year round wedding Venue but, for me, it’s at its absolute best in spring and summer. That’s when the dove cote – used for civil wedding ceremonies – and the lawns really come into their own. I’ve covered some wonderfully informal venues where guests gather around the dove cote for the ceremony, then mingle on the lawns afterwards. For this Preston wedding photographer it’s a chance to capture some relaxed smiles and informal group shots without anything feeling too forced or staged.

And then there’s the food. Your wedding photographer is there to shoot the day, not stuff his face, but every now and again a plate of food will come my way – and that’s always something to look forward to at Ferrari’s.

Are there slicker, more polished, grander Preston wedding venues you could choose? Yes, probably, although with the main house almost 200 years old there’s plenty of grandeur here too. But you’ll be hard pressed to find anywhere as warmly welcoming – or simply as much fun – as Ferraris.
